Enlightenment Essay The Enlightenment ( too known as the Age of Reason) antecedent in the mid- 1600s and ending during the late 1700s, is viewed as an exciting conviction of optimism and possibility in history. This movement evolved as a new-made generation of philosophers began to view terra firma as the best way of life to understand truth. This idea eventually led to the conclusion that savvy could be used to solve all human problems. These wisdom ideas spread throughout Europe to countries such as Prussia, Russia, and Austria and so on and were spread by writers publishing books, magazines and pamphlets on these ideas. Another reason Enlightenment ideas spread was because the spirit of change and a brighter upcoming was no longer being confined to the salons/ coffeehouses of Europe. Enlightenment philosophers of this measure began looking for ways to improve the human condition by applying reason so they started trying to change the organization of government activity for the better. There were many philosophers of this time period who helped the spread of the understanding but some of the more famous ones include: doubting Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Baron de Montesquieu and Voltaire.

Thomas Hobbes was an English thinker who go through a lot of violence during the English civil state of war which led him to believe that plenty were selfish and greedy. Because of this mindset, Hobbes thought that people needed governments to impose order. He came up with the social demand which was an exchange between a society and its government. He also believed that absolute monarchy was the best form of government because it had the power of a leviathan and that strong power could be used to impose honor and order. John Locke was another English philosopher who believed that people were happy and reasonable and argued that all people were born equal with the rights of life, liberty and property.
