The civil rights of women have long been overlooked. For America, the emancipation women could exert differed by location. For instance many of the eldest European settlers who ventured to America were Puritans.
They adhered to strict religious and cultural standards. For women, this meant that they would usually throw in their homes, cooking and raising children to follow the religion closely. unused Jersey was the first state to allow women to vote. A womanhood voter in New Jersey would have to join the property requirements but since very few women owned property, to the highest degree still went without voting. This allowance lasted from 1790 until 1807. In 1807 women were once again interdict from voting (Baker, 2005).
