The topic of cultural differences finish be an uncomfortable subject to talk or so. The story “Yellow Woman and a Beauty of the Spirit”, tells of Leslie Silko and how she finds the differences between herself and the other Laguna Pueblo children. She realizes from a young age that she isn’t quite the same as the other children. She comes from a pueblo mother but a white father. As a result, she doesn’t look quite like the pueblo children, but she doesn’t look like the white children either. However, this doesn’t start to affect her life until her kindergarten years. As she grows older, she finds that the quaint wad view her as she is on the inside, disregarding skin tone.



Yet, the young people look at her in a much modern way, including her skin tone. The reason for her acceptance by the old-time people is because they judge beauty by a person’s attitude towards others, and by her personality. Yet people her kindle’s age drift toward judging beauty establish on outer appearances. As the story progresses, Leslie’s great- nan, or A’mooh, and the acceptance she provides, becomes increasingly more important to her. Silko reminisces about how she would spend whatever time possible with her grandmother. This is perfectly understandable, and her grandmother provided an unbiased, loving, safe place for a rejected child.
