In this journal I will be looking at Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT), I will be showing the historic development, philosophy and the key principles of this approach illustrating this with examples, my personal experience and reflections.
CBT was pioneered by Albert Ellis in 1995, his throw individual approach now called REBT. Ellis is mute holding workshops today and at present teaches in a university in London. The original title of Ellis approach was called Rational Psychotherapy, he felt that this title did not cover all aspects of his approach so this is why he changed the approach to Rational Emotive Therapy, he changed the title again in 1993 to Rational Emotive Behavioural therapy (REBT), highlighting the cognitive, emotional and behavioural element of the clients experience.
Ellis came up with what he called, the ABC model, it allows a person to desecrate down specific problems that be behind emotional difficulties, -A stands for the trigger off event.
