I think that Mel Gibsons film is a magnificent work of art that opened the look of many people; not only other religions but Christians too. The majority of Christians know that Jesus died for our sins but before the film was released, they did not know in detail how horrific His remnant on the cross was. It is one thing to hear or so Jesus death and read about it in the Bible. It is other to actually see the process, the shame, and the extreme brutality that He had to undergo.
