Etiology
Preeclampsia is a pregnancy specific syndrome in which hypertension develops after 20 weeks of gestation in a previously normotenstive woman. It is a multisystem, vasopastic disease process of reduced organ perfusion characterized by the presence of hypertension and proteinuria. (Wong, Hockenberry, Wilson, Perry, Lowdermilk, 2006, p. 372)
